App State laboratory school ribbon cutting
Appalachian State University held a ribbon cutting ceremony in Elkin on Monday to celebrate the opening of their second Lab School Program.
The newly unveiled Appalachian State University academy at Elkin is a laboratory school.
This school is part of an initiative established by the North Carolina General Assembly to improve student performance.
Principal Emma Hatfield, principal of the App State Academy at Elkin, said that student success is what it's all about.
"I think we need to ensure that we're providing an environment to ensure where students are successful, feel successful and leave everyday happy, and [wanting] to come back to schools," Hatfield said.
The academy is expected to serve students from second to fourth grade and open enrollment is ongoing at this time.
