Staff Spotlight: Willow Larson

I am impacting education by helping to create a community of lifelong learners. Also, I am working with my grade-level team to implement new core values with our students.

Willow Larson, originally from Powdersville, South Carolina, earned a B.S. in elementary education from Appalachian State University in 2022.  Larson currently serves as a fourth-grade teacher at the Academy at Elkin. Read on to learn more:

Why did you choose to work at the Academy at Elkin?
Sometimes doors open to new paths and for me, the Academy at Elkin was one of the doors.   

What's your favorite part about working at the Academy at Elkin?
I love working with the students and empowering them to become extraordinary scholars. 

How are you impacting education in your community?
I am impacting education by helping to create a community of lifelong learners. Also, I am working with my grade-level team to implement new core values with our students.

What was your favorite subject when you were in elementary school?
Social Studies

The Academy at Elkin has a reading literacy focus. What is your favorite book?
Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

“Learning together” is a core commitment of the Academy at Elkin. What does "learning together" mean to you? 

Learning together means embracing your community to discover collective knowledge. 

For example, during our exploration-based learning framework training, my group discovered many niche knowledge pockets among the staff and community.
